The Cure's Robert Smith shares new album update: "We're wrapping it up now"

Rick Kern/WireImageLast summer, The Cure frontman Robert Smith declared that he was "intent" on releasing a new album with the goth icons in 2019, and that he would be "extremely bitter" if the year ended without one. Well, here we are in 2020 with no new Cure album.  So will we finally get it this year? The answer is -- maybe?

"We're wrapping it up now, it's going to be mixed," Smith tells NME of the album's progress. "But until it's out, no one's gonna believe me. I look forward to it coming out more than anyone else, trust me."

When the interviewer asks if he can promise a 2020 release date, Smith replies, "No! I'm too old to commit to idiot things like that. Wait and see!"

Last fall, Smith also said that The Cure was working on three new albums. He now clarifies that there's instead two albums in the works, while the third is "literally just an hour of noise."

The Cure's most recent album is 2008's 4:13 Dream.
